The campsites are clean and well-kept. You will have to drive by to find ones with shade, however. If you are reserving online, I remember sites 223, 225, and 213 have shade. If you need an electric site they have a whole loop of it and site 101 is super shady.

If you like history visit Quarry lake on the campground and walk the foot path. Old building foundations and interesting history of the town that once existed because of the limestone quarry.

One of the best campgrounds I've ever been to. Most of the camp sites have a lot of privacy. Brilliant place.

The beach is excellent! Lake Michigan in all its beauty without the Milwaukee smell. Clean beach, but get there early it fills up after 1pm!

We will be back. I planned this as a day tip with the family. There is camping hiking swimming and is dog friendly. We parked at the outer parking lot so we could hike down to the north beach to go swimming. The trails were clean and maintained with the occasional hiker/s. The beach has wonderful views and was clean. My daughter said it looked like we were on an island. There was other families/people at the beach. The beach area is large so plenty of room to move around and be spaced out. Dogs are allowed at the south beach but not the north beach. But we did see an occasional dog walk by. They also have electric campsites. Our next trip we plan camping to get the full experience. Happy trails!

Beautiful park, great swimming beach (when Lake Michigan is warm enough (somewhat rare)). Good hiking and XCountry skiing. Petty old quarry to walk around. Lots of deer (get close, they are pretty tame). Some old "ruins" left over from old stone quarry digs. Parking is the only prob, it is limited near the beach and one needs to take a (provided) shuttle from a remote lot during crowded summer swimming days. Enjoy!

We love this beach. It is always clean and not to crowded. We usually find really cool rock on the South dog beach. The north beach has nice sand for kids to play in. This beach also used to be a little village so lots of informational signs along the paths!
